Payne Ward & Sons
Payne Ward (1864 – 1938) was born in Yorkshire, the son of John Ward and Sara Ann. The 1871 census enumerated the family living at Thomas Street Court 1, Ecclesall. John was working as 'a razor setter in' (fitting blades to cut-throat razors)). By 1881 the family had moved to 73 Chester Street and Payne, now 17 was also employed as a 'a razor setter in'. Four years later Payne married Eliza Beet, they had two children, Harry Payne Ward and Annie Jepson Ward prior to Eliza's death in 1889....
