Samuel Holmes (1819-1898), a spring knife cutler, was probably the son of Joseph (a cutler) and his wife, Hannah. Samuel was trading in Watery Street by 1871. He was joined by sons Isaac Armitage (1843-1912), Samuel (1851-1910), and Herbert (1853-1913).
