The Royal cipher ‘Victoria Regina’ suggests that this knife was made before 1901. Identifying the maker is difficult, as an extensive search of Sheffield directories has failed to find Headford & Co. The name has, however, been found on other knives of this era. For example, on a Headford & Co ‘Real Green River Knife’ (which was an American pattern).
