Shemeld & Company
Thomas Shemeld & Son – maker of ‘Plain & Ornamental Razors’ in Prince Street, Moor – advertised in 1879. The owner was razor smith Thomas Shemeld (1829-1915). He was born on 4 October 1829, the son of Edward (a razor smith) and Jane. Thomas had married Miss Ann Smith in 1849, but they apparently separated and by 1861 Thomas was living with Mary Ludlam. They married in 1871, when Ann died. His sons – Thomas William (c.1857-1914), Maurice (1866-1935), and Joseph Rodgers Shemeld (1879-1938)....
