Cecil Blantern (1872-1950) was born at Cheadle, near Stockport, the son of Thomas Reddrop Blantern (a cotton cloth salesman) and his wife, Rachel nee Duckworth. Cecil’s father died at Cheadle in 1874, aged 51, leaving Rachel to raise the family. By 1897, when he married Jane Holmes at Dronfield, Cecil was a table knife hafter, living at Howard Street, Sheffield. By 1911, the married couple were residing at Apperknowle, Unstone.
