This company was apparently founded after the First World War – and was melting crucible steel at Wellmeadow Works by 1924. The founder was George Sorby (1885-1938), who was born at Sheffield, the son of Walter and Mary. Walter was from Clayton, Doncaster, but by 1901 was a crucible melter in a Sheffield steel works – a trade followed by George. The latter was listed as a crucible steel merchant in 1925 – then operated a crucible furnace in Brown Street. He lived at Vainor Road, Hillborough, and died on 8 A....
