Thomas Barnes (c.1809-1882) was listed as a pen, pocket, and lock knife manufacturer in Court 29, Solly Street, in 1833. He was living and working in Broomspring Lane by 1841, with his wife Sophia. By 1849, his address was Milton Street. In the Census (1851), he was enumerated as a ‘master spring knife cutler’, employing four men. In the 1850s, he seems to have moved to Hollis Croft/Edward Street, where he may have been the publican at the Woodman Inn, Edward Street. ....
