James Henry Coe (1827-1885) was the son of Thomas (a labourer) and his wife, Elizabeth. By 1852, James was a pocket knife manufacturer in Attercliffe, who later operated at Nursery Wheel, Stanley Street. He had several sons, some of whom – Walter (1848-1932), Thomas (1851-1911), Clifton (1853-1918), and Albert (1854-1913) – joined the business. James (who also sold groceries and beer) died at Industry Road on 23 March 1885, leaving £595. He was buried in Attercliffe. The ....
