Charles Drabble, pen and pocket knife maker, was born in Sheffield on 8 August 1803, the son of John (a cutler) and his wife, Martha. By the 1830s, he was in Rockingham Street and then Broad Lane. However, the first occasion Charles Bennett’s Drabble’s full name appeared in a directory was in 1837, when he was aged about 31, and was making pen and pocket knives in Fitzwilliam Street,.
