George Hancock
George Hancock may have been born in Sheffield on 7 August 1807, the son of George (a cutler) and his wife, Sarah. He became a scale, spring, and blade manufacturer, with a business in Edward Street by about 1850. He lived in Solly Street, with his wife Nancy. George Hancock continued trading in Edward Street until his death, aged 75, on 22 March 1883. He left £218. He was buried alongside his wife Nancy (who died in 1881, aged 72) in an unconsecrated grave in the General Cemetery.&n....
