In the early nineteenth century, the Wood family was based in Garden Street. Between 1816 and 1829, Benjamin, John & Robert Wood was listed as a manufacturer of pen, pocket, and sportsman’s knives in Garden Street. The address was sometimes given as ‘top of Garden Street’ or Furnace Yard, Garden Street. In the early 1830s, Benjamin Wood was listed alone in Garden Street (with a residence in Red Hill).
