Arthur John Arnold (1864-1940) was born at Greenwich, but by 1901 was living at Sheffield and working as the principal of a teaching college. By the First World War, A. J. Arnold was attracted by the cutlery and tool trade. With his son, John Arthur Perry (1892-1967), he launched Arnold & Son as a manufacturer of scissors.
