A fine scissor maker, William Brookfield was likely baptised on 1 October 1736. If so, his father was George Bruckfield (as the name was then spelled). William was apprenticed to scissor smith John Smith and was granted his Freedom in 1762. He was listed in the directory (1774) at 23 Trinity Street, using the trade mark ‘DEY’.
