Walter Clarke (1840-1921) was the son of Isaac, a mason and builder, and his wife, Ann. Trained as a surgical instrument maker, his family lived in Lansdowne Road. He was listed in Derbyshire Lane by 1868. He advertised at Cambridge Street in 1871, when he employed two men and a boy. He worked as a nail and champagne nipper manufacturer until at least 1911 (when he had become totally deaf). He died on 221 September 1921, aged 81, leaving £6,748. ....
