John Ward
This scissors maker was listed in the Sheffield directory (1774) at Burgess Street, using the trade mark ‘WARD’. He apparently died in about 1780, because in the directory of 1787 ‘Widow’ Ward was a maker of ‘common scissors’ at Burgess Street, with the same mark. Apparently, John Ward had two sons: Matthew (bapt. 1757) and John. Matthew became a Freeman in 1781; John was apprenticed to Thomas Smith in 1782 and then to Lemuel Davison in 1787, but never b....
