Henry Clegg was trained as a table knife cutler and by the 1860s was a table knife manufacturer at Sheaf Island Works, Pond Hill, and residing at Talbot Street. In 1881, he employed 30 men and two girls (son, John, and daughter, Florence, were apparently in that total). Henry Clegg died at Talbot Street on 1 January 1887, aged 69, and was buried in an unconsecrated grave in City Road Cemetery. He left £3,811. His widow and then his son, John, continued the firm.
