Charles H. Wood was born in Sheffield in about 1831. He was the son of Samuel Wood, a table knife cutler living in Sylvester Street in 1841, and his wife Esther. Charles, too, was trained as a table knife cutler and later established his own enterprise. He became insolvent in 1858.
