Robert Baxter was variously described as a hardware man, a merchant, and table knife manufacturer. He was listed in 1833 as a merchant, living in Fargate. Later, he resided in Norton Lees. Towards the end of the 1830s, he was involved in successive partnerships with Potts, Brumby, and Brown (see Staniforth, Parkin & Co). When these ended, Baxter apparently traded as Robert Baxter & Co, until he became insolvent in 1844 (when he was based in Arundel Street). His subsequent career has not ....
