Jonathan Salt (1759-1815) was born at Wardsend, the son of Daniel (a carpenter or farmer). He was apprenticed to his brother, John, who was a table knife manufacturer at Hollis Croft. Jonathan became a Freeman in 1791. He joined his brother as a partner in J. & J. Salt, 61 Hollis Croft.
