Edward South (1800-1885) was born in Sheffield, apparently the son of Francis (a cutler) and Sarah. Edward became a partner with Charles Holmes in South & Holmes, a table knife manufacturer. This ended in 1837. South was listed in 1841 as a table knife manufacturer in Fitzwilliam Street. Four years later he advertised in a local directory.
