Frederick W. Shirtcliffe (1823-1897) was the son of Joseph (a cutler) and Sarah. He was apparently the brother of W. R. Shirtcliffe. He started his career as a pearl and ivory carver. In 1871, he was listed as a manufacturer of plated dessert knives and forks, fish carvers, fish eating cutlery, and butter knives, Havelock Works, Leadmill Road. He employed six men and two boys.
