Edwin Herriott (1861-1938) was born in Norton, Derbyshire, the son of Samuel Herriott, a gardener, and his wife, Martha. By 1881, Edwin was working in Sheffield as a table cutlery warehouseman. He apparently worked as a table knife manager until 1900, when he launched E. Herriott & Sons, Backfields.
