We believe that this refers to Norman Bennett, born on 10th October 1902 to Harry Bennett, an electroplater and silversmith and Annie, a dressmaker. He was working as a stainless polisher at Albert Works, Sidney Street from 1936 to 1941.
In August and October of 1939, he ran a series of small ads in the Sheffield Daily Telegraph looking for Mirror Polishers: “Mirror Polishing – GIRLS wanted for Glazing. Apply Norman Bennett, Albert Works, Sidney Street”
According to the 1939 census, he was living at 152 Greenhill Avenue and gave his occupation as “Stainless steel cutlery polisher”. He does not appear to have been a cutlery manufacturer and it is therefore unclear why his name appears on table knives.
