The knife we have in the Collection is marked ‘Firth Brearley Stainless, Sheffield’, with the single name ‘Carrick’, however there does not appear to have been a firm by this name that traded in Sheffield.
It was common practise to purchase knives etched ‘made in Sheffield’ and add the name of the Company retailing them.
Carrick Bros, 237 Argyle Street, definitely sold ‘Gent’s knives’ and open razors with ‘made in Sheffield’ etched on them. It would appear safe to conclude that the knife was made in Sheffield (maker unknown) but sold in Glasgow by Carrick Bros.
