Harry Gunby (1892-1959) was born in Sheffield, the son of Harry Gunby (1868-1930) and his wife, Sarah.  Harry Sen. became a representative for a nickel silver manufacturer. He died on 23 August 1930, aged 62, and was buried at Abbey Lane Cemetery. His son was listed as a grocer in Danville Street, Pitsmoor, but this seems to have been operated jointly with his wife.  

After 1930, Harry Gunby was listed in directories as a cutlery merchant (dealing in knives) at 106 Backfields.  This was a backstreet (running between Carver Street and Cambridge Street), which once housed tenement factories and small workshops. Harry Gunby died on 1 January 1959, leaving £2,746. His wife continued to run the grocery shop in Danville Street.
