A. Seaman & Co appears to have been an enterprise with a fleeting history. It was never apparently listed in a Sheffield directory. However, newspaper ‘wanted’ advertisements appeared in 1896: on one occasion a youth was wanted for buffing and polishing pearl and ivory handles; on another, a boy was wanted who had worked in a pearl or ivory fluter’s shop (Sheffield Daily Telegraph, 2 September, 10 October 1896). The address of A. Seaman & Co was Burgess Street.
