This firm’s originator was Joseph Ash (1849-1944?), who followed his father’s trade as a silver polisher and was married to Sarah Elizabeth. By 1891, he was working on his own account at Trafalgar Wheel, Trafalgar Street. He brought his son, Joseph (1874-1961?), into the business, which by 1901 was listed as Ash & Son, nickel silver platers, Trafalgar Street.
By 1905, it was listed as J. Ash & Son, cutlery and electro-plate manufacturer. In the 1920s and 1930s, the firm operated from 117 Fitzwilliam Street. In about 1937, the firm was acquired by J. W. Haigh. It was listed at 57 Trafalgar Street in the early 1950s, but then became defunct. Its trade mark was a chamberstick device, with ‘TB 2’.
