We believe that this knife was advertised and marketed by the Gillott Cutlery Co, rather than made by them.
The ‘Burns’ double-edge saw knife had been designed by US inventor and entrepreneur, Joseph E. Burns from 1208 E Water Street, Syracuse, New York. He had a British Patent (251,184) approved on 29 April 1926 following his earlier approved US Patent (1,388,547) on 23 August 1923.
Serrated-edge bread knives became a popular design in Sheffield in the 1920s
