Samuel Ardron (c.1782-1860), the son of Thomas and Ann, was born in Laughton-en-le-Morthen, near Rotherham. By 1833, he was listed in Sheffield as a horn scale presser in Burgess Street. A partnership with George Lee was dissolved in 1835. Samuel Ardron’s son – also named Samuel (1807-1881) – became a white metal smith.
Father and son formed a partnership as horn pressers and manufacturers of Britannia metal wares, which during the 1840s and 1850s was based at 12 Holly Street. In 1851, the business employed thirteen men and two boys. Samuel Ardron & Son was dissolved in 1855 and three years later the Holly Street premises were occupied by A. E. Furniss. Samuel Sen., Edgerton Street, died on 2 March 1860, aged 78. He was buried in the General Cemetery, leaving under £100. Samuel Jun. continued to work as a horn trader and metal smith, but his name disappeared from directories. He died in Court 8, Pitt Street, on 10 February 1881, aged 73. He was buried in an unconsecrated grave in the General Cemetery.
