Thomas Beeley was baptised on 22 February 1726, the son of Thomas (a cutler). His mother may have been Sarah Wild – a widow, who had married cutler Thomas Beely on 9 February 1723. According to apprenticeship records, it seems that Thomas Jun. was trained by his father and became a Freeman in 1748. The Sheffield directory (1774) listed Thomas Jun. as a spring knife maker at Ponds, using the trade mark ‘MARS’. He appeared in the next directory at the same location. Sheffield Public Register (29 July 1791) reported that Thomas Beely, cutler, Pond Lane, had died on 25 July 1791. He had ‘served the office of Master Cutler’ [in 1768]. Beely was buried at St Paul’s churchyard.
