The Drew family came from the Heeley / Norton area of Sheffield. Harold (1896-1970) was the son of Thomas (1872-1929) and Clara, nee Hodgshon (1872-1955). Both are buried in Norton Cemetery. Thomas was a table blade grinder; Harold followed him in the trade. Harold married Mary Jane Warrington on 23 Dec 1918 at Norton Lees.
It is understood that several generations of Drews, including Thomas, Harold and Harold's son, Walter (1919-1993), worked together in their cutlery factory on Daisy Walk. (From family posts on www.sheffieldforum.co.uk) Harold applied for and was granted patent number 695366 in 1953 for an improved cutting edge for table knives that was marketed with the name of DRUVEX.
Harold Drew, of 12 Norton Ave, Gleadless, died on 20 November 1970, leaving 3,957.
