Henry Francis (1842-1923) was a spring knife cutler. His early years are obscure: possibly in 1851 he was living in Ranmoor with his mother, Mary Ann, who had married Joseph Himsworth, a scissors forger. By 1861, Henry was an apprentice cutler in Orchard Street and then became a spring knife worker until the early 1890s, when he established himself in Central Works, West Street. He advertised in the Foreign Buyers’ Catalogue (1895). By 1900, he was in Trippet Lane and was listed there until after the First World War. Henry Francis, Marriott Road, Millhouses, died on 2 July 1923 (aged 81), leaving £479.
