Charles Heathcote was enumerated in the Census (1851) as a 45-year-old master cutler employing five men. He was living with his family in Bernard Street. By 1862, when he advertised in the directory he was based at Gill Works, Bernard Lane, in the Park district. By 1881, he was unemployed and living in Spitalfields. He died there in 1881, aged 75, and was buried in City Road Cemetery on 29 August.
