Born in about 1842 into a family of cutlers in the Pea Croft area, James Trickett was listed in 1868 as a spring knife manufacturer in Edward Street/Scotland Street. By the early 1870s, Trickett was manufacturing pen, pocket, sportsman’s knives and razors. He appeared in the 1876 directory listing of Bowie makers. In 1879, still at New Edward Street, he also traded as an ironmonger, living in Corn Hill. Trickett apparently ceased trading in about 1883 and may have died in the following year. His son, Walter Trickett, later acquired Edwin Blyde.
