A. Wright & Sons was established in 1947 at Midland Works, Sidney Street, by Arthur Wright and his son (also named Arthur). It was a traditional pen and pocket knife manufacturer, which also produced scissors and Bowie and sheath knives. Budding and pruning knives were a speciality, besides painters’ tools, such as scrapers, and palette knives. The trade name was ‘BARONET’. The firm sometimes contracted pocket knives from Stan Shaw. In 2013, Wright’s traded from Charles Street address and was operated by John Maleham. The trade mark was the letter ‘W’ with superimposed ‘A & S’. It continued to sell pocket knives in 2024.
They still operate from 158 Charles Street.
