‘Widow’ Colley was listed in 1787 in Campo Lane as a maker of ‘common’ scissors, using an ‘S’ crossed-pipes mark. In 1797, when Alice Colley & Son was in Silver Street, this mark included ‘AIGO’. The ‘Son’ was William Colley, who partnered his mother until 1811. It seems that Alice’s deceased husband was David Colley (bapt.1730), who became a Freeman in 1751. Alice Colley, Broad Lane, was buried at St Peter & St Paul churchyard on 18 October 1816, aged 78.
