This firm apparently originated in Luke Proctor & Co, which registered a silver mark in 1785 (Law, 2000). The partners included Luke Proctor, John Wever (or Weaver), Charles Roe, Robert Gainsford, and George Eadon. Eadon, Kibble & Wever was eventually formed. It registered a silver mark as a manufacturer of silver and plated goods from Hollis Croft. Weaver died in 1810. William Battie joined until Kibble died (he was buried in St Peter’s churchyard on 12 July 1815, aged 66, with his address as Duke Street). The firm apparently ceased trading. George Eadon continued to be listed as a ‘gent’ in Norfolk Street. He died there on 5 May 1850. His obituarist observed: ‘Though not of a robust constitution, his temperate habits contributed greatly to his general good health and longevity’ (Sheffield Independent, 11 May 1850). His age was stated as 90; though the Ecclesall burial register has 88.
