This scissors manufacturer was based at Enterprise Works, St Mary’s Road. It was first listed in 1951 and its directors were Hugh Morton (who apparently owned the firm), George Brown (1897-1952), and W. Sutton. ‘Morbro’ was presumably a conflation of Morton and Brown. An advertisement offered fifty different types of scissors. In 1952, Morton registered an ‘improvement’ in scissors. This was a pair of scissors, forming a combination tool for fishermen, which comprised a pair of blades – one of which was longer and bent over to form a terminal hook. It was advertised in International Cutler. Morbro’s managing director, George Brown, of Charnock Dale Road, Gleadless, died on 13 October 1952. He was aged 55. He was buried at Crookes Cemetery, leaving £2,239. By 1957, the firm had become Morbro Tools & Blanks. The ‘MORBRO’ trade mark was apparently acquired by Rockingham Plate Ltd.
