William White (c.1843-1922) described his occupation as master pearl cutter. He had been born in Sheffield, the son of John (a butcher) and his wife, Mary A. In the Census (1861), he was living with his parents at Arundel Lane and was a pearl cutter and grinder. He partnered W. B. Wolstenholme in about 1886 at Holly Street. But they parted and in 1890 White relocated to Carver Street. In 1903, he was bankrupt with about £250 debts. He blamed his failure on bad debts and the increased cost of pearl, which meant that he had not made a profit for the last eighteen months (Sheffield Daily Telegraph, 24 April 1903). He eventually resumed trading as a pearl haft and scale cutter at Arundel Street. After the War, he was working at Rockingham Street. He died on 20 March 1922, aged 79, and was buried at Norton Cemetery.
