This firm was registered as a limited company in 1951 (capital £1,000) to acquire the business of Albert Richard Ashby (1896-1986). The latter had been born in Birmingham. He was the son of Albert Richard Ashby (1875-1944), a Sheffield silversmith manager, and his wife, Ada. By 1951, Albert Jun. was a manufacturer and dealer in cutlery and wood ware (such as bread platters) at Toledo Works, Hollis Croft (formerly occupied by William Howe). Other directors were Doris Ashby, Clive Ashby, and John L. Groom. Ashby’s produced silver-plated table cutlery marked ‘ARA’. In 1983, Clive Ashby liquidated the company.
