George Watson was born in Sheffield in about 1830, the son of James Watson (a table knife cutler) and his wife, Elizabeth. In 1841, the family lived in Dun Fields. In the Census (1851), George was a table knife cutler, living in Scotland Street at the home of Eliza Swindon. In the same dwelling was Eliza’s daughter, Caroline (born in France, but a British subject). Caroline was a seamstress and later became George’s wife. In 1868, George Watson advertised as a pen, pocket, and table knife manufacturer in Cornhill. He operated the business with the help of two sons until the early 1880s, but by 1891 was working as a furniture broker. His death date has not been traced.
