George Edward Harrop (1869-1942) was born in Sheffield, the eldest son of Aaron Harrop and his wife, Elizabeth. He apparently joined his father’s table cutlery business, but after that hit financial problems George launched his own firm. He advertised in the Foreign Buyers’ Catalogue (1895) as a manufacturer (or merchant) of table cutlery, fish eaters, dessert and plated knives, Sycamore Works, Sycamore Street. Later addresses included Rockingham Street and Holly Street. In 1899, George Edward married at Great Longstone Hannah Rebecca née Sellars, the daughter of a miner. However, Hannah died in the following year, aged 35, and was buried at Great Longstone. After 1905, when he was listed at Holly Street and Norfolk Market Hall, George Edward disappeared from directories. In 1911, he was living at Great Longstone, Derbyshire, where he was residing with his mother-in-law. His occupation was stated as table knife manufacturer, on his own account. In 1939, he was living at Bakewell and had retired. George Edward Harrop was buried at Great Longstone on 20 May 1942, aged 72.
