Cutlery Box
The owner was John Fell Holloway (1905-1967), who had been born in Sheffield. He was the son of John Fell Holloway (a blade forger) and Annie Shaw. In 1939, John Jun. was living at Wentworth Street and described himself as a ‘master forger’, who made surgical and plantation knives (Register of England & Wales, 1939). J. B. Holloway & Co was listed in 1948 at 19-23 Wellington Street as a manufacturer of table, butchers’, pruning, budding, plantation, and shoe knives. By the early 1950s, Holloway’s Wellington Works marketed paint strippers, palette knives, putty knives, lino and hacking knives. Holloway’s was bankrupt in 1957. The trade mark was the word ‘HOLCO’.
