Temple Works in Holbeck around 1952
We believe that the knife we have was made in Sheffield (maker unkown) for Samuel Driver Ltd, a company that operated Christmas Clubs, Chocolate Clubs, and mail order in Leeds from about 1920. The firm was Samuel Driver Ltd in 1929, when the address was Burton Road, Leeds. A fire hit those premises in 1937 and it later moved to the magnificant Temple Works in Marshall Street, Holbeck.
In 1938, it was taken over by Kay's Ltd, which was by that time part of Great Universal Stores (GUS) although still being run as a separate company.
