George Daffin was the son of Benjamin Daffin (c.1772-1849) and his wife Mary Grundy. Between 1816 and the early 1840s, Benjamin had been listed variously as a razor maker, hardware man, and cutlery dealer in King Street (with a residence in Arundel Street). He died in Howard Street on 19 October 1849, aged 77, and was buried in St Peter’s churchyard. His son, George, was listed variously as a cutlery dealer, hairdresser, and confectioner in King Street and then later the Wicker. He advertised as a repairer of cutlery in the directory (1845). George Daffin, hairdresser, died in the Wicker on 26 November 1852, aged 40, and was interred in a St Peter’s grave. His brother, Benjamin Daffin Jun. (1801-1877), had emigrated to the USA in the early 1820s, married Mary Fisher in Philadelphia in 1824, and then worked as a cutler, grinder, and razor manufacturer in Holliday Street, Baltimore. He was one of the founders of the American Order of Odd Fellows.
