Charles Bower was born in 1830, the son of Benjamin Bower, a cutler, and his wife Charlotte. In 1841, they lived in Brook Street. By 1851, Charles was living in Lambert Street and was an apprentice brass caster. He launched his own business, but then apparently sold the name to William Rodgers, who in 1855 described himself as ‘late Charles Bower’.
